Hoisting wire

A hoisting wire is a braided steel wire rope. A hoisting wire runs from the cable drum, up through the mast, to the hook. The wire consists of thousands of small steel wires that are braided together. That makes a hoisting wire a very strong material.

When fine steel strands or wires are braided together, they become extremely strong and durable. The cable is easily rolled onto a winch drum and spooled out when needed to lift and move a load. A large steel hook is usually attached to the cable. This hook is placed in a hoisting belt or chain that is placed around the object to be hoisted. The hoisting cable is then wound back onto the winch drum, raising the load.
